Fakir is a hidden, off-the-radar kitesurfing gem known only to a handful of dedicated riders. Located near Paliampela, this 250-meter-long sandspit offers exceptional butter-flat water on its sheltered side—perfect for freestyle sessions.
Fakir is challenging and suited only for experienced kiters. The spot works best with west to northwest winds, typically ranging from 10 to 20 knots, but it's not for the faint of heart. The spot is exposed to offshore wind, and the best riding zone overlaps with a local fish farm.
The beach is made up of coarse sand and pebbles mixed with washed-up debris, including glass shards, and there is a notable presence of sea urchins—so boots are highly recommended. There are no swimmers or beachgoers here, and only a small number of kiters know about this location. Occasionally, a group will clear the beach to make it rideable, and when the wind cooperates, they’re rewarded with an epic, private freestyle session.
To reach Fakir, drive from Lefkada towards Vonitsa, then Paliampela, until you reach the beach Ρούγα Παλιάμπελου. This is a good spot for swimming and overnight campervan stays. From there, continue by car toward the fish farm. The Fakir spot is not visible from the road—you’ll find only a faint trail, sometimes overgrown, made by kiters. From the farm, walk about 200 meters along this path to reach the water.
Fakir is a raw and isolated location, offering elite-level flatwater conditions for those willing to seek it out.
