Located just 2 km from Lefkada Town on the northern tip of the island, Agios Ioannis, also known as Milos Beach after the old windmills lining the coast, is one of the most iconic and scenic kitesurfing spots in Europe. Set on the shores of the Ionian Sea, this long stretch of beach offers 4.5 km of ridable coastline, turquoise waters, and a backdrop of rolling hills and historical structures.
Thanks to consistent thermal winds from SW, W, and NW, blowing between 12 and 24 knots, the beach delivers reliable riding conditions throughout the summer season. The open orientation to the west ensures steady afternoon wind, making it a go-to destination for intermediate and advanced kitesurfers seeking both freeride and wave conditions.
The beach offers plenty of space to launch and land kites, and there's ample parking just 30 meters above the shoreline, easily accessible by road. However, the entry into the water can be tricky: the shore and seabed are dotted with smooth, slippery rocks and rock slabs, which can be hazardous, especially during onshore wind days when waves break directly onto the shore. For beginners, it's recommended to body drag about 50 meters out before attempting to waterstart and ride safely.
Agios Ioannis is also a solid choice for wave riders, particularly when the swell builds under stronger winds. Still, caution is advised due to the rocky seabed and changing shore break conditions. Despite its challenges, the beauty and power of this spot make it a must-ride destination for kiters exploring the Ionian coast.
