The town of Velipoje is the northernmost town on the Albanian coast. The beaches around the town are sandy with a gentle entrance into the water. The town is medium-sized and, judging by the number of hotels, campsites and beach bars with umbrellas, it is a popular resort. The best kitesurfing season here overlaps with the summer tourist season, so the main beaches around the town are full of umbrellas and tourists.
For kitesurfing, we recommend a bit of beach south of the city. You can park in front of the last beach bar, Viluni Beach Bar. In the places where the area with umbrellas ends, the beach turns into a pale sand spit with canals to the lagoon.
The sand spit provides enough space for launching kites. The wind most often blows side-onshore and with a gradual entry into the water, this area offers ideal conditions for kitesurfing.
We have not verified the option of kitesurfing in the lagoon on flat water. The lagoon is a place for fishermen, their nets and various poles sticking out of the water in many places.
