Sidi Kaouki, located just 20 minutes south of Essaouira, is a premier wave spot for kitesurfers seeking strong winds and challenging conditions. This expansive sandy beach stretches for several miles and is renowned for its powerful summer thermals, generating consistent winds strong enough to keep even a 6m² kite aloft.
The wind conditions at Sidi Kaouki are comparable to those of the Canary Islands, with summer trade winds amplified by thermal effects, especially during spring and early summer when inland temperatures soar. The winds, typically side-shore to side-offshore, can reach 30-40 knots during the summer, making it a hotspot for advanced riders and wave enthusiasts. Winds tend to build throughout the morning, peaking by mid-afternoon.
Between October and April, Atlantic storms bring less predictable but still decent winds, with North/Northeasterly sideshore breezes similar to Essaouira, but slightly stronger.
Fully exposed to Atlantic swells, Sidi Kaouki is a magnet for hardcore kitesurfers drawn to its intense wave sessions, perfect for surfboards and small kites.
The northern end of the beach hosts the Sidi Kaouki Marabout (a historic shrine), a large parking area, and a selection of small cafes and restaurants, offering a touch of local charm and amenities for visitors.
