Moulay Bouzerktoun, often referred to simply as "Moulay," is one of Morocco’s top spots for windsurfing and kitesurfing, located just 25 km north of Essaouira. This small village sits on a rocky point, offering powerful winds and consistent Atlantic swells that create clean, rideable waves perfect for advanced riders seeking a challenge.
The northeast trade wind, locally known as 'Charki,' blows year-round, peaking in strength from mid-March to mid-September. During winter, winds are less consistent and may shift directions.
While Moulay is globally renowned as a windsurfing hotspot, kitesurfers may find the limited sandy area and rocky shoreline challenging for launching and landing. The spot's reputation as a windsurfer hub means kitesurfers aren't always welcomed, especially during prime conditions with strong winds and excellent waves.
However, just north of Moulay Bouzerktoun, you'll find a vast, untouched beach with rolling sand dunes, offering a more serene and spacious environment for kitesurfers. There’s also a dedicated kite center nearby for those seeking guidance or equipment rental.
