Praia de Varandinha is one of the most scenic and wild beaches on the island of Boa Vista, Cape Verde, located on its southwestern coast. The beach is characterized by long stretches of golden sand, crystal-clear waters, and dramatic rock formations that shape its coastline, creating a landscape of remarkable beauty.
Praia de Varandinha is a picturesque kitesurfing spot known for strong currents and challenging conditions. The wind blows side-offshore from the right, producing big and slow waves that provide plenty of fun for experienced kitesurfers.
However, this spot demands caution — there is no margin for error. If you drift just 500 meters downwind, you can find yourself either in the open Atlantic Ocean without rescue support or washed onto sharp volcanic cliffs. Due to these conditions, Praia de Varandinha is only suitable for advanced riders.
Access to the beach is not straightforward; it requires driving along sandy tracks between dunes, making a 4×4 vehicle essential to avoid getting stuck. Visitors can reach the beach by rental car, taxi, or organized trips, but must be prepared for the off-road adventure.
