From Paracuru, an asphalt road leads across the dunes to Quebra Mar (breakwater) The local road crew has to deal with sand drifts in addition to potholes. Despite the fact that there is no accommodation right on the kite beach, this location continues to draw a large number of kite surfers year after year. There's a reason for that. Quebra Mar, near Paracuru, is regarded as one of northeast Brazil's top wave places.
At low tide, the offshore reef, which almost completely surrounds the location, breaks all waves. Behind the reef, a 220 yard long flat water lagoon forms. And it is just this reef that distinguishes this location as a unique and universal destination. You can have beautiful flat water and wave conditions in the same area depending on the tides.
The opposite side of this kite area appears when the sea rises higher and higher above the reef, which is roughly 330 yards from the beach. Then there's a terrific (by Brazilian standards) reef break. With a big swell, the waves break on the reef and reach a height of over 8.2 feet. Several people think that this is Ceara's best wave. In most areas, the reef is 6.5 feet under water at high tide. The waves, though, are no longer as high. Instead, you'll enjoy a relaxing beach break while kiting. A visit to Paracuru is a must for kiters.
