Kalavarda (Rhodos)

Kalavarda is a kitesurfing spot located on the northwest coast of the Greek island of Rhodos. It is appreciated for its peaceful atmosphere, reliable wind conditions, and suitability for riders of all levels—from beginners to advanced. The area features a few kite schools and rental options, making it an accessible destination for both learning and progression.

The beach in Kalavarda is relatively long and open, offering a wide launch area with a mix of sand and pebbles. This setup provides enough space for safe kite handling, even during busier days. Downwind to the right, there's a small pier, and directly on the beach you'll find a modest kite center offering support and local insight.

Wind conditions in Kalavarda are ideal for kitesurfing, especially from June to September, when the Meltemi—a thermal wind—consistently blows across the region. The wind direction is predominantly from the west (W), southwest (SW), or west-southwest (WSW), and it typically picks up strength in the afternoon, reaching up to 20–25 knots. The wind is mostly sideshore to side-onshore from the left, offering great conditions for freeride and wave riding.

The water surface is characterized by chop and small waves, which grow larger as the wind increases throughout the day.
