Flame Balls is a mythical left-hand point break near Anakao, renowned for its incredible but fickle kite wave conditions. This spot delivers powerful medium to big waves, making it an exhilarating challenge for advanced kitesurfers.
Situated about 2.5 km offshore, the break forms over sharp reefs beyond the lagoons, demanding skill and caution. The wind, mostly cross-offshore from the southeast, builds up from midday and can reach up to 30 knots, providing ideal conditions for wave riding.
Reaching Flame Balls is an adventure in itself. A boat takes riders to the deserted island of Nosy Ve, where they set up and launch their kites. From there, a thrilling 5 km downwinder leads to the break at the lagoon’s edge. However, since visibility from the shore is limited, riders won’t know if the wave is working until they make the journey—turning each session into a gamble with nature.
Flame Balls is a truly unique and unforgettable wave kitesurfing experience for those seeking a mix of adventure, challenge, and raw beauty.
