The Alvor Lagoon's unique topography, characterized by sandbars, ensures a predominantly flat surface and shalllow waters, perfect for refining tricks and techniques.

With its versatile wind conditions, the Alvor Lagoon welcomes kiters in any wind direction, proving particularly favorable for beginners during mid-tide when most of the lagoon boasts waist-deep water. The period from mid-March to late October witnesses the dominance of a strong and steady thermal wind known as Nortada. This wind phenomenon typically starts around 3 pm, maintaining an average speed of 20 knots and favoring an onshore/side-onshore direction within the lagoon, providing optimal kitesurfing conditions. The Nortada wind amplifies its allure on sunny days.

While the Alvor Lagoon remains a year-round kitesurfing destination, the prime conditions materialize between May and October. The wind, at its strongest from June to August.
