La Ventana is one of the top places for kiteboarding in the northern hemisphere from October to April. With the wind predominantly from the north averaging 18-25 knts. LV has 2 international airports nearby so its very easy to get to and being Mexico, the cost of living is quite low.
La Ventana is a big L-shaped bay with predominant wind from the north. It is very safe since you have side shore wind and have the bottom of the bay as a big safety net where you will always end up on the beach, not blown out to sea.
The water is between flat and small chop in most of the bay with small waves on the south end where the wind is on shore. The rest of the bay is perfect sideshore wind. The temperature is generally warm.
Out in the water most people wear wetsuits in the winter months. Usually a shorty or full suit 3/2 is enough unless there is a strong “Norte” (strong cold front from the north) it can get chilly. For your average size rider a 9m kite is perfect most of the time but you will use 7m or 12m a few times throughout the season. The season runs from October to April. The best and most consistent winds come between November and February.
