Nissakia Loutsa, located just 35 km east of Athens, is the most popular kitesurfing and windsurfing spot in the region. Its proximity to the capital and well-developed facilities both on-site and nearby make it a favorite, especially on weekends when many riders from Athens flock to the beach.
The best wind directions are from the north and northeast, with a long season stretching from March to November and near-daily wind conditions from July to September. The spot offers remarkable versatility: close to the beach you’ll find shallow, mirror-flat water with gusty wind, while farther out toward the islets the wind becomes more stable and the water turns choppy.
A large reef starts from the shore and stretches halfway to the two small islands offshore, effectively dividing the spot into two kite/windsurf zones. Between these islands lies a shallow, sandy-bottomed lagoon with flat water — an ideal freestyle playground when it's not too crowded.
The beach itself is not a typical Greek sandy beach; it has a rocky base with seaweed coverage and a mix of sand and stones. Because of this, and the entry challenges caused by the reef, Nissakia Loutsa is not suitable for beginner kitesurfers.
